ABOUT US

Rochester Data Science Society (RDSS) is the first student society at University of Rochester that serves all students at UR who are interested in data science, statistics or other related fields. The mission of RDSS is to enrich student understanding of how to use and manage data to solve complex problems while building bridges between students, alumni, industry and Data Science Societies of other universities. All students at UR are welcome to join the board. If you are interested in joining the society, please send a brief introduction to urdatascience@gmail.com. For more information, please feel free to follow our facebook page: Rdss UR.

Mission for the RDSS

  • To build the bridge between all graduate students at UR who are interested in data science or statistics and departments or institutes (such us URBEST, CTSI, CIRC, Department of Biostatistics, Department of Public Health, and Goergen Institute for Data Science, etc.)

  • To let graduate students (even some senior undergraduate students) understand how to use and manage data to solve complex problems.

  • Since its inception in 2012, the UP-STAT conference series has steadily grown and expanded into the annual forum that brings together all the statisticians, applied mathematicians, engineers, computer scientists and data scientists from all around upstate New York and its neighboring regions. UP-STAT 2017, like the 5 previous UP-STAT conferences before it, especially strongly encourages the active participation of advanced undergraduate students, graduate students, postdoctoral researchers together with early career and late career faculty members. This is an ideal platform where young students get the golden opportunity to present their first serious research work in from of a deeply knowledgeable yet very friendly audience. The UP-STAT conference is always immensely fun and consistently stages world class keynote speakers from whom the audience learns a lot. All professionals involved in any form of data oriented or data centered activities are also strongly encouraged to consider attending or even better participating with presentations of their current work. What’s more, a wide variety of prizes and awards are conferred on the most deserving student participants. Come join us and let’s celebrate statistics and data science right here in upstate New York!
